U.S. Open and Another Very Old Course

I love U.S. Open week. This year looks especially good with the new remake of Pinehurst. Sounds like the course will look and play a lot more like an old fashioned golf course, should be fun.
Maybe not this old - but I love this photo

I would like to see Phil win this one, but not sure he is going to. I don’t think an upstart newcomer will win, look for one of the old familiar faces to get this one.

What do you think? I am going with the young kid from Northern Ireland, you know, the recent called off wedding guy. He is now 100% concentrating on golf, I will go with him this week. Rory McIlroy !
But I still wish Phil would pull it off.
Hitting a few balls on course abandoned 60 years ago - very cool

Another Year in Golf

Well the majors are over for the year. Phil won, Tiger did not. But mark my words, Tiger will win one next year. Jason Dufner might win another also, I don't think he is a flash in the pan. Now back to my own game, still working to get the handicap down to singles.

Tger and Phil -- Back to Back

Tiger, #75 and Phil, #41, back to back, if you are a PGA fan, it doesn’t get any better kicking off the new season.

-My two favorite golf quotes of the week-

Lee Westwood referring to Vijay and the Antler spray big deal. “You have to be careful about what you take. I try not to take anything now, really, other than Corona and Vodka.”

Rory Mcllroy said about his new deal with Nike, “Golf needs a younger, more athletic image, and Nike has always had that. I’m young enough. I’m not sure I’m athletic enough. But I’ll try!”

This week the PGA goes to Pebble and the champion’s Tour has their first full field tourney with the Allianz in Boca Raton. Great golf TV if you live in a cold state and can’t play yet!

Phi, Vijay, Sergio and # 16

Phil is tearing it up this week. I wonder if the happiest PGA pro in the world might be Vijay Singh. Phil is playing lights out and the talk is all about him and not about Vijay and the deer antler fairy dust conspiracy.

If you didn’t see the melt down, by now, staring Sergio GarcĂa you really missed something. It was hilarious, although he probably is embarrassed by it now, he shouldn’t be. Golf doesn’t need to be so stuffy all the time.

Reminded me of the old time baseball managers, if you are old enough to remember Earl Weaver, or as old as me and remember Billy Martin, you know what I am talking about. They went crazy and it was fun, people loved it, they cheered and they booed.

Speaking of booing and cheering, most people watching the Phoenix Waste Management Open don’t know what to think about #16. Cheered if you hit a good one, booed roundly if you miss the green, it’s like going to a golf tournament in Arizona and a hockey game in the Bronx breaks out.

Enjoy the Super Bowl and go Phil

Hey Phil-"You Want to Trade-and John Daly Too

The Farmers Insurance Open tees it up this week. Looks like a pretty strong field. Tiger has won this one six times, I guess we will see if he can make another run at it. Any tourney at Torrey Pines will have some drama and make for good TV.

Rory is home working on his game but, call me crazy, if Tiger and John Daly are there it will be fun. And Bubba and Phil will play, hope Phil doesn’t catch too much flack over his comments on taxes. Although he deserves at least one—“HEY PHIL YA WANNA TRADE ME SALARIE”- along with the usual, “atta boy and you da man.”

I have always been a fan of Big John Daly, I know he has fought off some demons, I just like the guy. He is who he is. I hate it when our athletic heroes let us down, John has just always been John, doesn’t try to hide his problems. And I like his game, if he can get over his one bad round every tournament, maybe he will content again.

These Guys Are Good

Phil Michelson has Bones pull the stick on 18, just in case. When I am hitting a ball in from more than a hundred yards out, I just hope to get it close enough to avoid a four putt.
The Farmers tournament was really good this year and with no football, unless you call the pro bowl later, football, I hope the ratings were good.
Good to see David Duval, Tiger and John Daly hitting a few good shots and staying around for the weekend.
Nice to see Bubba Watson win again, remember the famous quote, when a very young Jack Nicklaus won the 1965 Master's? Golf legend Bobby Jones said he “was playing a game with which I am not familiar.” That is the game Bubba plays, but he seems like a great guy and is fun to watch.
